25 Elevated H&M Pieces That Make Up My Perfect Workwear Capsule

Believe me, I get it. After what felt like an uncharacteristically long Christmas and New Year break, the return to the 9 to 5 has felt particularly challenging. Summoning up the motivation to do the early starts and long commute is one thing, but choosing what to wear to work in the morning is a struggle in itself, and if you’re already lacking the enthusiasm for a day in the office, I can guarantee that pulling out the same old suit won’t give you any more joie de vivre, winter is already grey enough.

That being said, I happen to like typical “workwear”. Tailored trousers, sharp blazers, crisp shirts and midi skirts make up a lot of my everyday capsule wardrobe already, but what keeps them fresh is how you choose to wear them. Small styling changes are what keeps workwear feeling new and polished, for example, sizing up your shirt for a slouchier, casual fit, pairing your blazer with jeans, and, whoever the first person was to wear trainers with a trouser suit is quite honestly a genius. So, as we start a new working week, pour a much needed coffee and look to our wardrobes to help give us the extra boost we need to put a little more pep in our step, what should we wear to work in 2023? As it turns out, H&M has the answer.

Scrolling through the new-in section (a frequent past time of mine) I began to build a capsule wardrobe of office-ready pieces that still look equally good for casual weekends too, something that H&M always manage to get right. Plus, there’s plenty of brand new, expensive-looking pieces to factor into your everyday looks, as these wise investments always elevate an outfit, whatever your plans may be. So, if you’ve stood in front of your wardrobe in the last couple of weeks and declared “I have nothing to wear!” keep scrolling for everything I’m adding to my basket from H&M this month. It’s the perfect mix of everything you need to get ready for work in the morning, simply mix, match, and wear on repeat.

Goodbye December, it’s nearly my favourite time of year–trench coat season.

The only thing in your wardrobe that’ll work harder than a white tee and jeans? A blazer. In fact, wear all three for an instant outfit.

Shake off the stuffy connotations of pinstripes with keeping them casual with trainers.

The dream coat you’ll wear year in, year out.

French girls love them, It girls rely on them–we just can’t discuss looking polished without including the bouclé jacket.

Nothing says “smart” quite like stripes.

If an Oxford shirt isn’t your thing, try this elegant top-meets-jacket. The scoop neck and premium finish show you mean business.

Until summer rolls around, I’m still firmly devoted to cashmere knits with slouch appeal.

Size up and wear the bigger the better. Just tuck into jeans, skirts, or tailored trousers.

There’s a new tailored trouser on the block, and at that price, we’ll take a pair in each of the four colourways.

A classic, cropped, straight-leg trouser to wear now with boots, and all summer with sandals.

Make the most of leather weather in a pair of supremely cool wide-leg trousers.

The perfect desk-to-dinner option.

If anything is going to change your mind about “boring” grey suits, it’s this. Who says you can’t wear a mini in the office?

The dose of joyous colour your daily commute needs.

There simply isn’t an office around that this versatile dress won’t make the right impression in.

It’s not all about basic block colours, print deserves a moment too.

Add this to basket, wear to work, and wait for the compliments to start rolling in. I guarantee it.

A cosy dress to combat that “winter Monday” feeling.

I don’t know if its the colour, the shape or the cashmere, but this jumper looks a million dollars.

Add a knee high boot and you’ve got easy elegance, nailed.

Not a fan of turtlenecks? Try a v-neck with plenty of sweeping maxi dress appeal.

Fashion meets functional in one cool coat.

Dress up even the most basic outfit with this luxe wool coat.
