32 Cosy Winter Buys From H&M, & Other Stories and Arket

It feels like we’ve already been talking about winter for a long time now. With the Autumn/Winter catwalks showing in February, such is the the nature of this industry that we end up talking about the trends way ahead of ourselves. But, December is in full swing now, which means we can finally enjoy all the wonderful winter fashion that comes with it.

It’s all about layering this time of year, and making smart swaps to ensure your wardrobe is ready for the sleet, cold, snow and anything else the month might throw at us. Knitwear and other cosy separates are also key at this time of year, with swaddling up and leaving as little skin open to the elements as possible firmly on the agenda when it comes to getting dressed.  Whatever you choose, take pleasure in all the clever combinations that can make simple pieces look so much more exciting.

Fresh new season drops are arriving from both the high street and designers, which means a whole host of new inspo and ideas for how we want to dress for this time of the year. There are three high-street brands, in particular, though, that we on the Who What Wear UK team always turn to first when it comes to cosy winter buys: Arket& Other Stories and H&M. And needless to say, they have seriously impressed us this December.

Key buys inevitably sell out further into the season, so now is the best time to snap them up, and there’s plenty here for you to choose from. We’re turning to the classics that can be easily layered up, such as blazers, knit dresses and jeans, as well as bookmarking the hero coats of the season before it’s too late.

Now’s the time to invest in a great puffer coat, and this green style is just divine (and super warm).

Fashion girls love hoods. Fact.

Cargo trousers feel really fresh right now.

So soft! So cosy!

My favourite pair of high street jeans.

Cable knits are never not chic, especially in a beautiful cream shade.

These could easily pass for designer and no, I won’t be taking them off all winter.

Is this the perfect layering top? I think so.

It’s official: This is the best blazer on the high street. Layer it over knits and under coats for a smart yet cosy look.

I love how grey looks with blue denim.

A chic bag that will fit over all your layers? Yes please.

Arket’s outerwear remains some of the best on the high street.

This also comes in grey FYI.

Cashmere for under £50? I’m sold.

A classic you’ll wear for years.

Keep the cold out with this knitted hood.

I love how this jumper looks with wide-leg trousers. Add trainers for a cool touch or chunky boots for something warmer.

Somewhere between a flare and a bootcut, these jeans feel cool for right now.

Pink is going nowhere. Wear this chunky sweater with blue denim or a grey wash pair.

Invest in a great pair of loafers now, and they’ll see you through so many months. Note: just add white socks for extra warmth.

Collar detail knit tops are all I want to wear right now.

Snow, I’m ready for you!

You can’t have a cosy edit without a fair-isle wool mix knit.

A merino wool legging is one of my must-haves of the season. I’ve barely taken mine off.

Rib-knit dresses are H&M’s speciality, and this light beige version with cashmere mix is practical as well as stylish.

H&M has so many expensive-looking coats this season, including this dark grey beauty.

This kind of sweater vest is begging to be worn now over a midi dress and your favourite knee high boots, then come summer team with wide leg jeans and sandals.

Hoods are having a moment, especially with the sub zero temperatures we’re experiencing right now!

We all know you can’t beat a classic roll neck, and this 100% merino wool is a winner for under £40!

I’ll be copying this whole look asap. Swap in a sweater for extra cosiness.

Stripes are just timeless.

I have this and can confirm it’s the perfect cream knit.
