4 Chic Yet Easy Outfits That Are Perfect for Wearing to the Pub

One of life’s simple pleasures is clocking off at 5pm on a Friday, making a beeline for the pub and spending the evening unwinding with friends. In the summer months, the pull of fairy-lit beer gardens is motivation enough to get through the working week, and when the moment finally arrives for you to close your laptop and head out the door, the last thing you want is to find yourself in an outfit rut.

That’s why I’ve assembled five pub-ready looks that are easy, chic, and most importantly strike the perfect balance between dressed-up and laid-back. By the time the weekend rolls around, most of us are keen to ditch our 9-5 gear and wear something we feel great in. However, pubs are typically more casual than cocktail bars and clubs, so there’s no need to go all-out with sky-high stilettos and an LBD (unless you want to, of course).

In general, I suggest using staples like jeans and simple shirting as the foundation of your outfit, then adding some eye-catching items into the mix. For example, a top with an interesting neckline or a statement pair of earrings. It’s also a good idea to have some layering pieces in your arsenal—summer evenings can be chilly—and comfortable shoes for those trips to the bar. But why tell when I can show? Check out five polished pub looks that are perfect for your next visit, whether you’re live-watching the Women’s World Cup or catching up with girlfriends over a G&T.

Style Notes: To create an outfit that’s equal parts comfortable and stylish, opt for a pair of elasticated-waist trousers and tuck in a one-shoulder top. The finishing touches are important here—pull out your chicest summer accessories to complete the look.

If I spotted this on a passer-by, I’d guess it was designer.

These versatile trousers also come in black and white.

This will go with dresses, jeans and skirts, too.

Influencers can’t get enough of this basket bag brand.

An everyday essential.

& Other Stories is my go-to for stylish sunnies.

Style Notes: There are few items as flexible as a ribbed tube dress, especially one in a neutral shade. Toss on a striped linen shirt, aka the ultimate warm-weather layer, and some understated accessories.

This is such an easy piece to dress up or down. Just add slingback heels and gold jewellery to make it feel instantly smarter.

The entire WWW team has been so impressed by H&M’s linen collection.

With this chunky necklace, you can keep the rest of your jewellery simple.

I’m obsessed with this everyday handbag.

Isabel Marant’s kicks aren’t cheap, but these will go with everything so they’re well worth the investment.

Style Notes: If you’re craving a pop of colour after five days in a muted work uniform, a graphic tee is a great option. Fun, fuss-free and easy to throw together last-minute, this outfit might just be my favourite on this list.

Bold statement incoming: Ganni makes the best graphic tees.

The denim skirt trend is showing no signs of slowing down.

This off-white shade is so summery.

It’s a yes from me!

These are available in five different shades.

Style Notes: Here at Who What Wear, we’re advocates for wearing knitwear year-round (if you’re based in the UK, you’ll know it’s a no-brainer). Stay warm even while sitting outside with a cosy cardigan and jeans combination.

This still feels quite summery, thanks to the short sleeves.

Ecru jeans are a staple for summer.

Pull this out when it gets chilly.

So sophisticated.

Yes, I have included basket bags in 90% of these looks. No, I’m not sorry.

Khaki plimsolls are a unique alternative to plain white pairs.
