The San Francisco 49ers pulled off an incredible second-half comeback to beat the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship game.
With the victory, the 49ers will go on to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl after the Chiefs upset the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC title game. This will be a rematch of Super Bowl 54 when Kansas City beat San Francisco 31-20.
The 49ers were trailing 24-7 heading into halftime and went on to score 24 unanswered points, including 17 in the third quarter, to get back into the game. Brock Purdy threw for 267 yards and a touchdown while Christian McCaffrey ran in two scores.
Detroit made a late push to try and tie the game with a touchdown in the final minute. Unfortunately, the Lions weren’t able to recover the onside kick and will have to wait to make the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
