6 Casual Autumn Outfits That Make Getting Dressed So Easy

Autumn is already on our minds and even though we’re part-way through August, we secretly can’t wait for layering season to roll back around.

In the UK we’ve already had a taste of what the cooler months will bring and we’ve started to notice a few of our autumn favourites gracing the streets a little early.

When you’re switching from summer to autumn styling, it can be difficult to get back into the habit of layering. Finding reliable garments that layer well on a cool day, but also look great on their own can take a lot of time. Once you’ve got those foundation pieces, it’s even trickier working them into the rest of your wardrobe as you adapt to the weather demands of autumn, and cumulative change in colour pallet and general mood.

To give you a head start in honing your autumn wardrobe, we’ve gathered six easy to copy casual outfits to see you through September and beyond in style.

Style Notes: Billowy white skirts rocketed in popularity this year, and expected to stick around whilst the season turns. To make your maxi more weather appropriate style with a boxy t-shirt and layer with an oversized blazer.

A blazer you’ll treasure forever.

As the name suggests, this is the perfect everyday t-shirt.

I’ve been tempted by lots of white skirts, but Reformation’s is my favourite.

Style notes: As summer rounds off, we’re seeing the distressed leather bomber jacket emerge as the fashion set’s outwear of choice. The distressed finish lends itself to casual dressing, and the bomber style fit pairs well with loose trousers or jeans.

This grungy style will go with some many looks.

The perfect layering tank-top.

White trousers lend themselves to transitional styling.

Complete the look with retro inspired trainers.

Style Notes: A reliable midi dress and go-to pair of boots are the cool-weather dream team. Watch out for midi’s with a long sleeve for that extra layer of insulation, and shop around for a pair of knee high boots your really love–you’ll come back to them a lot.

There’s no need to stow away your dresses during autumn–it’s just a matter of experimenting with styling.

A great pair of boots will see you through all seasons.

Style Notes: If there’s one thing autumn calls for, it’s trench coats and loafers. Look out for a trench in a soft, lightweight fabric that you’ll be able to reach for as a light cover-up for the remainder of August, before pairing with woollen knits come September.

This trench drapes loosely and comfortably.

The perfect straight-leg fit.

You’ll wear these for years to come.

Style Notes: If you’re looking for an outfit with minimal input and maximum effect, look no further than double denim. A thick denim shirt will take you further than any cotton blouse when the weather starts to cool.

The perfect relaxed fit.

The perfect flared pair.

Style Notes: If I’m ever stuck on what to wear, I’ll pull out a reliable white cotton shirt and layer it with a wool or cashmere jumper. This no-fuss look leans on the preppy side, but can be dressed down the some sandals or trainers.

Contrast this classic piece with bold colours.

Perfect for all seasons.

These trousers come in five colours.
