7 Jeans Trends Fashion People Will Live in This Autumn

Is it weird for me to say that I miss wearing jeans? I’ve spent the best part of the last four months working my way through my collection of summer dresses, which, back in April, I couldn’t wear to wear again. Now, though, the tables have turned, and I can’t wait to resume the comfortable and reliable relationship I have with my jeans come autumn.

I don’t know about you, but jeans are the bedrock of all of my favourite autumn outfits. I wear them with everything from crisp white shirts and loafers to a blazer layered over a bra top and heels. In fact, as 90% of the outfits I wear between September and March will involve a pair of jeans, I can always justify treating myself to a new pair at this time in the year. But which to choose?

To help me analyse my options, I set out to discover the top autumn 2022 jean trends. What I found? There are seven styles that feel so current. (I deliberately left out straight-leg pairs because, let’s face it, they’re never going to feel passé). Scroll on to see the seven autumn 2022 jean trends that will make your outfits feel current this season.

A chic way to showcase cool heels, boots or trainers, a pair of split-hem jeans is at the top of my autumn shopping list.

Light washes keep cropping up.

I’ll be using this pair to help me re-create Sylvie’s look above.

These come in a slew of classic colours.

Style Notes: Between celebrities and influencers wearing them on repeat, puddle pants—trousers so long they pool on the floor—have been one of the most stand-out looks of the season. Carry them through to autumn by way of a pair of puddle jeans.

I just know this COS pair will fly off the shelves.

Black jeans look their sleekest paired with other black separates.

The perfect wide-leg silhouette.

Style Notes: If you’re looking to introduce a little more colour into your daily looks, there’s no easier way to do so than with a pair of colourful jeans. Forgo pastels and brights in favour of rich autumnal tones, such as forest green, rust and burgundy.

I’m really into this Refornation pair, which also comes in rust, cobalt, khaki and black.

These fall into Mango’s extended-sizing range.

I can see our contributor Monikh Dale in this pair (most likely styled with a quilted jacket).

Style Notes: Although it makes the perfectionist in me feel a little uncomfortable, there’s no denying the return of ripped jeans is upon us—I know this because they’re everywhere I look.

If you want premium-looking rips, turn to Agolde.

Keep your rips to your knees if this is your first time trying the trend—they feel more classic.

Between the rips and the colour, these are the ultimate Y2K-inspired jeans, especially when worn with jersey basics and shiny black footwear.

Style Notes: White denim might be synonymous with summer, but minimalists wear it well into autumn, too. I like how crisp it looks set against leather boots and biker jackets. Look for cropped pairs that showcase the aforementioned boots beautifully.

These look cute turned up at the hem.

I’d like to wear this entire look.

I can’t fault Arket denim.

Style Notes: Cargo trousers have been one of the biggest trends of the year, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering just how popular the Y2K aesthetic has become. For autumn, the throwback piece is being overhauled in denim.

Reformation is knocking it out the park with its new denim drop.

Take the sleek approach with a neutral pair.

The front seams add another interesting detail into these trend-led jeans.

See what I mean about lighter denim washes? They’re everywhere.

These will look great with chocolate or cream jackets and shoes.

You know it’s a thing when Totême adds it to its collection.
