7 Winter Outfit Ideas You Can Try This Weekend and Beyond

As much as we’d like to pretend they haven’t, winter temperatures have well and truly set in. The mercury has dropped, and to be frank, it is well below what a summer-loving Australian like me is used to. I am in need of a heavy dose of winter outfit inspiration, as getting through the coming months will require a lot of planning. Where better to turn than Instagram? From images of cosy coats shot among fallen leaves to envy-inducing fluffy jackets and roll-neck jumper combinations, our set of fashion friends definitely know how to make anyone crave winter dressing.

While winter might not be my season of choice, one thing working in its favour is the fact that it provides more opportunity to experiment with my wardrobe. The abundance of layers required to get through the day inevitably equates to an endless number of outfit combinations, and I can’t deny there is something exciting about that. I’ll be spending my winter weekends mixing and matching my favourite pieces to create outfits that prioritise warmth and comfort but don’t lack style. A statement coat and chunky sneakers? Check. A puffer jacket and midi dress? Why not? Scroll through below for seven winter weekend outfits we’ll be trying.

Style Notes: Before it gets too icy, your blazer is your best friend. And when it gets super chilly? Through an oversized coat on top and you’re good to go.

Style Notes: Sometimes the weather is so cold that one jumper is simply not enough. Make like Brittany Bathgate and layer your second knit around your shoulders so it’s ready to go when the temperatures drop.

Style Notes: A trench is great for the summer to autumn transition but layer it correctly enough and you can make it last well into winter too. Add chunky boots to your joggers and you’ll be completely winter-proofed.

Style Notes: As we’re in the season of Halloween, why not make a thing of it and dress like your best gothic self? Take the pleated skirt trend and combine it with a pair of black boots and a blazer.

Style Notes: Is there anything chicer than an all-beige outfit? I wager not. It’s the easiest way to do luxe dressing in winter.

Style Notes: Bored seeing plain black puffer coats? Good news—there are plenty of different coloured versions around. Opt for the head-to-toe versions in a cream colour and pair with a matching jumper, jeans and sneakers.

Style Notes: Not going out much? There’s nothing wrong with embracing the outfit of 2020—the tracksuit. Wear with cool trainers and you’ll be ready to head out for a daily walk too.
