Despite the abundance of blue skies that have graced London lately and the mid-20s temperatures we experienced earlier this week, knitwear season is just around the corner. Over the next fortnight, we’ll be swapping our summery blouses for autumnal knits and pulling our cosiest closet staples out from the back of our wardrobes once again.
So which knit trends are Londoners most excited to embrace this autumn? We tapped eight of our favourite fashionable women—including Zeena Shah, Lauren Nicole Coppin, Emma Hoareau and more—to answer exactly that.
Interestingly, in an almost unanimous answer, the overwhelming majority of responses included cardigans in some shape or form. Whether it be over-sized iterations , cardigan co-ord sets or intricate embroidered designs , several of the women below explained they can’t wait to start wearing cardis again this season. “I love a knit and tend to wear them all year round whether that be layering summer dresses or my winter long sleeves. I’m loving the embroidered cardigan trend this season. The sweet cable knit with a floral detail has me longing for late summer picnics in the park and autumnal walks. I have my eye on one from Shrimps in a bright fresh colourway as well as a vintage few. As we start to cosy up these nostalgic designs feel only fitting for hunkering down in.”
“I can’t wait to start wearing more knit co-ord sets. I love the camel and grey coloured ones, but for a more eye-catching look, I’ve seen some gorgeous, blue, light green and purple sets on the high street, that I’m dying to be able to wear, for those “did she just get out of bed?” “How does she look so stylish?” moments.”
“I am OBSESSED with knitwear and this season for me it’s all about cute, cosy cardigans that your Nan would be proud of! LOVE this Shrimps number…”
“I love a knit cardigan as I find them really easy to style in different ways. I love wearing shirts and for me, this is the knit version of that! I tie that at the waist with jeans and skirt to accentuate my shape, and sometimes style them off the shoulder, too. Perfect for the start of autumn.”
“As winter came to an end earlier this year I really fell hard for cardigans and I’m already so excited to wear them again. They’d been missing from my wardrobe in previous years and now I am a woman obsessed. I think they can be easily overlooked, but they’re so versatile. Whether it’s an oversized chunky one from H&M or & Other Stories, a more delicate knit from the likes of Rouje or Sezane or a statement cardi from Shrimps they look gorgeous with jeans and trousers or unbuttoned over a dress. I love the almost Grandpa-chic vibe that they bring.”
“Knitwear season is absolutely my favourite time of year and I’ve got my eye on several knitted dresses. There are some incredible styles to choose from: square neck, tie waist, fitted or loose there is bound to be something for everyone. Easy to wear at home as well as if you have to head back into the office, the ultimate in comfort dressing!”
“AW is without a doubt my favourite season for fashion and there are lots I’ve got my eye on. I’m very excited for the return of the chunky fisherman’s stripe knit which I love paired with straight leg jeans and loafers. I’m also seen quite a few chunky sleeveless knits, perfect for layering over shirts and under blazers. And of course, I’m forever a fan of an embroidered cardigan, especially worn over an exaggerated collared shirt!”
“When it comes to autumn I love to bring out knitted cardigans as the weather is not too cold and it’s just the perfect time to pair it with a cute pair of shorts, a mini skirt and then finished off with some chunky boots.”
