Summer may not have officially begun just yet, but the warmer days and brighter skies have got me thinking about one thing and one thing only: the beach. However, seeing as it’s been almost three years since I stepped on one (dog-walking purposes aside), I feel a little out of practice when it comes to assembling looks to wear to the beach or, indeed, to lie by the pool in. This is precisely why I’m turning my attention to celebrities.
Seeing as they live very different (read: more luxurious) lives than most, celebrities know a thing or two about dressing for their hols , so who better to seek inspiration from? It would appear the stars have aligned their annual holidays, as so many stylish celebs are soaking up the rays in some exotic destination as I type—and doing so very stylishly, I might add. So what are they wearing for their sunny breaks? I’ve charted the eight celebrity swimwear trends that are already proving to be a hit. From swimwear to accessories all the way to of-the-moment cover-ups, scroll on to see the celebrity swimwear trends that matter this year.
Style Notes: Swimwear trends are usually indicative of the broader fashion trends we’re seeing at any given time, and this certainly pertains to the lurex bikini trend that celebrities—including Jennifer Lopez—keep picking up. The metallic flexes make it feel fancy and glamorous, a far cry from the Speedo you wear to do lengths in the local pool.
Glitter lurex is a style signature at Oséree.
Cut-outs are another major 2022 trend.
I have a DD+ bust and swear by Form and Fold bikinis.
Style Notes: As far as jewellery goes, I very rarely deviate from gold, with clear stones forming the only sort of embellishments. However, I intend on using my next holiday as a reason to get a little more playful with my jewellery, starting with the beaded necklaces that are decorating the décolletages of everyone from Hailey Bieber to Simone Ashley.
Such lovely colours.
Ideal if, like me, your jewellery budget is small.
A very special piece indeed.
Style Notes: These days, the cover-up you choose is just as important as the cossie you wear underneath it. If you’re unsure what your beach aesthetic looks like, start with something simple like Jasmine Tookes’s linen shirt.
You can never go wrong with a classic Oxford stripe.
This will look beautiful with a bright bikini or swimsuit (I’m thinking hot pink) underneath.
I really rate M&S linen.
Style Notes: Gorgeous gorgeous girls love their sun protection, which is why I’m jumping on the bucket-hat bandwagon. Not only will the wide brim offer your face more protection from the sun’s rays, but it’ll also help you achieve that Y2K aesthetic It girls like Hailey Bieber are rocking on the beach.
The logo-emblazoned straps are a nice touch.
This is your reminder to always check the Zara menswear department.
This versatile bucket hat comes in every key colour.
Style Notes: If there’s one thing we know to be true about fashion, it’s that what goes around always comes back around. And right now, we’re witnessing a resurgence of ’70s-style graphic florals, which are proving very popular on swimwear, too, I might add. Just ask Tracee Ellis Ross.
This colourway is divine.
As bold as it gets!
Zimmermann always creates the most striking floral motifs.
Style Notes: Sheer fabrications are having a major moment this season and double up as the ideal beach cover-up. Make like Lizzo and add a mesh dress to your packing list.
So cool.
Kai Collective dresses come in a vast array of sizes.
This little number also comes in a sold Kelly-green iteration.
Style Notes: Mirroring the spring/summer 2022 runways, bold, saturated shades are high up on the swimwear agenda this season, with the likes of Dua Lipa choosing to clash hers with other highlighter tones. Doesn’t her lime bikini top make her glowy tan pop?
Just like Dua Lipa’s.
This specific shade of pink was a highlight on the runways.
I really love the cut of this top.
Style Notes: While it may have once been considered passé to match your outfit to your bikini so acutely, fashion has taken a 180-degree turn. Now, celebrities are seeking out co-ords that, well, coordinate, perfectly to their cossies and bikinis, creating a very high-end aesthetic in the process. Add a basket bag to give the look a touch of the Riviera about it.
I’d wear this with a cute linen miniskirt for drinks at the bar.
I’m all about the elasticised-waist life, especially on holiday.
Faithfull the Brand has some of the strongest co-ords out there.
I guess I’m wearing skorts again this summer.
