All six Premier League clubs withdrawing from European Super League

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have followed Manchester City and Chelsea in withdrawing from the newly formed European Super League, the clubs announced on Tuesday.

While Chelsea is the only remaining English club that has yet to officially released a statement, the team was preparing documents to tell the Super League it wants out too, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press.

This leaves Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan as the only remaining members of the Super League following the Premier League withdrawals.

Backlash has been swift since the official formation of the Super League on Sunday. The likes of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the Spanish courts and the sport’s governing bodies have all opposed the plans and have even threatened players with international bans if they participate in the Super League.

There was even discussion about a women’s Super League until Nadine Kessler, UEFA’s head of women’s football, criticized the idea.
