Blue Jays’ Springer expected to play vs. Orioles after leaving Tuesday’s game

Toronto Blue Jays star outfielder George Springer is expected to play designated hitter and bat leadoff in the team’s series finale vs. the Baltimore Orioles after being removed from Tuesday’s game for precautionary reasons, per Sportsnet‘s Hazel Mae.

Springer was lifted in the seventh inning of the Blue Jays’ 4-2 loss after appearing to have some leg discomfort while running the bases. He was replaced by pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson.

The 31-year-old has battled a number of ailments this season, including a knee injury from which he had just returned Monday.

When healthy, the team’s big free agent addition has been one of the hottest hitters in the American League and was twice named AL Player of the Week earlier in the summer.

The Blue Jays wrap up their three-game set vs. the Orioles on Wednesday at 7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN Now.
