Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby scored his 500th career NHL goal on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Crosby scored No. 500 on the power play midway through the first period, one-timing a cross-ice pass from long-time teammate Evgeni Malkin.
The 34-year-old is now tied for 45th in all-time NHL goals, second among players currently playing in the NHL behind Alex Ovechkin, who’s fourth all-time with 759. Crosby is a two-time Rocket Richard winner as the NHL’s top scorer in a season (2011, 2017).
Making the achievement even more remarkable, Crosby is hardly considered a pure goalscorer. The three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist has recorded 1,370 points in 1,077 games — good enough for seventh in all-time points per game despite playing through a low-scoring era for much of his career.
