Five Toronto Blue Jays were in the American League lineup for the team’s 3-2 win over the National League in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and catcher Alejandro Kirk started, while right-hander Alek Manoah, second baseman Santiago Espinal and closer Jordan Romano were reserves.
Here’s a look at how the Blue Jays performed.
Manoah
The Blue Jays sophomore caught William Contreras looking at strike three with a change-up at the knees after he entered the game in the second inning.
Pitching to Kirk, Manoah then struck out Joc Pederson on a foul tip with high heat.
After hitting Jeff McNeil on the foot, Manoah struck out a third batter with a swing and miss by Ronald Acuna Jr.
Manoah also had a microphone on him during his inning.
Guerrero Jr.
The Blue Jays slugger, facing NL starter Clayton Kershaw in the first as the cleanup hitter, grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop to end the inning.
Guerrero then flew out to centre in the fourth while facing Tony Gonsolin before exiting the game.
Kirk
Toronto’s most consistent hitter this year got the honour of catching fellow Mexican Fernando Valenzuela’s ceremonial first pitch before starting the game.
Batting ninth, Kirk was retired by Joe Musgrove in the third when he broke his bat lining out to second.
Kirk went 0-for-2 when he grounded into a force out in the fourth against Gonsolin. He was replaced by Jose Trevino in the fifth.
Espinal
The second baseman entered the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Espinal grounded out to shortstop Dansby Swanson in the seventh and walked in the ninth.
Romano
The closer did not play in the All-Star Game after pitching for the Blue Jays on Saturday and Sunday.
