Alcaraz beats Ruud to win U.S. Open, captures first Grand Slam, No. 1 ranking

Carlos Alcaraz is a Grand Slam champion.

The 19-year-old from Spain defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud in the U.S. Open final on Sunday, winning 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3 in New York.

With the victory, Alcaraz now holds the world No. 1 ranking in men’s tennis.

Alcaraz won the first set 6-4, before Ruud, who lost his second major final of the year, answered by breaking the Spaniard’s serve twice and winning the second set 6-2.

In the third set, Alcaraz won a tiebreaker for the first time in the tournament, taking it 7-1.

Alcaraz then wrapped up the match by taking the fourth set.
