Video review causes yet another key call to go against Maple Leafs

For the second game in a row, the Toronto Maple Leafs had a controversial call go against them on Thursday night.

Dallas Stars forward Tyer Seguin’s tying goal in the third period originally was disallowed by the officials when it was ruled he made incidental contact with Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov as the rebound trickled in.

But Stars coach Peter DeBoer challenged the call, leading to a lengthy review.

The refs then determined that Leafs winger Mitch Marner, who was trying to box out Seguin, caused the contact — and overturned the call, making it a 2-2 game.

Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe was visibly upset and argued with the officials and cameras showed general manager Kyle Dubas also expressing his displeasure.

On Monday, the Leafs also lost on a coach’s challenge, denying a tying goal late in the third period in an eventual loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly was ruled to have committed a hand pass violation in the moments leading up to the goal by Alex Kerfoot.
