10 Outfits That Are the Definition of Cool Right Now

When it comes to assembling an outfit, looking trendy is always the goal, isn’t it? Even if you have classic style, you will still want to feel current in whatever you’re wearing. Now, that’s not to say that you need to start re-creating Valentino’s top-to-toe PP Pink outfits to meet your friends for a casual Friday night drink. Still, if you are looking for ways to make your autumnal outfits feel more trend-led without compromising on your aesthetic or having to completely overhaul your wardrobe, I have a few suggestions for you to consider.

Below, I have curated an edit of 10 trendy autumn outfits which strike the balance of feeling of the moment, all while being looks you could easily replicate next year, too. Comprising elevated colour combinations, chic layering suggestions, and off-beat pairings that you mightn’t have thought of otherwise, these are the cool ensembles you’re going to want to save down stat.

Style Notes: Rose pink and chocolate brown might not be the most traditional of colour combinations, but it’s certainly one of the freshest.

Such a beautiful colour.

ASOS has so many knitted co-ords to choose from, but this is one of the best.

Flare silhouettes make knitted trousers look more elevated.

Style Notes: Cutouts are a major trend as far as dresses are concerned this season. Instead of the lightweight fabrications that dominate summer, give the look an autumnal twist with a knitted frock.

Monikh’s green midi dress is now out of stock, but I’m just as taken with this blue iteration.

This bangle is roomy enough to layer over even the thickest weaves.

These will look so elegant with the dress above.

Style Notes: Breton-stripe knits are a hot-ticket item this autumn, and while they look great styled with your basic blue jeans, try a white pair if you really want to stand out in monochrome.

One of the best stripe knits on the high street.

Don’t save your white jeans for summer.

Warehouse has so many expensive-looking boots to choose from.

Style Notes: A few years ago, wearing leggings outside of the house would have signified that you were heading to the gym or picking up an artisan coffee. Now, though, they’re the height of sophistication—at least, when they’re worn with knee boots and a blazer.

I love how unfussy this blazer is.

Another way to dress up leggings? Add a white shirt.

H&M has elite affordable leggings.

These also come in a classic black leather iteration.

Style Notes: Bouclé jackets are having a moment, which is unsurprising considering the celebration of the fabric on the most-recent Chanel runway. To stop theirs from looking dated, fashion types are styling theirs with baggy jeans that pool around the ankle, otherwise known as puddle jeans.

If Chanel is off the cards, Zara has plenty of bouclé to pique your interest.

Reviews for these jeans recommend you should size down.

Love these boots? They also come in a knee-high version.

Style Notes: The ’90s fashion force is strong this season. But in lieu of scrunchies and tie-dye, things have taken a minimalistic turn. Hanna’s outfit consists of a mini tube dress, matching outerwear and a chunky heart pendant on a leather cord necklace. It’s the perfect example of the Y2K aesthetic.

A staple in any coat collection.

So cute!

Skims rule when it comes to tube dresses.

Style Notes: Although I’d consider faux-fur coats to be a fairly timeless outerwear investment, there is something so “fashion” about styling them with wide-leg trousers. Oh, and Aniyah’s cream and chocolate pairing? So expensive-looking.

This Jakke coat looks so premium.

This extra layer will keep you toasty throughout the autumn.

These also come in a chic cream colourway.

Style Notes: According to Prada, Loewe, Miu Miu and, well, too many other designers to mention, bomber jackets are back. If you have the budget, keep things extra fresh with a brightly coloured leather version, which you can then neutralise with black or grey jeans.

This was a key piece on the Loewe autumn/winter 2022 runway.

Small details like the asymmetric button fasten set Abercrombie’s current denim offering apart from other high-street brands.

Kitten heels are still trending.

Style Notes: The preppy trend is gaining serious momentum this season with pleated miniskirts and chunky knits serving as the easiest outfit to channel it via. Although pleated minis can look a little juvenile in the summer months (I blame crop tops), I think a pair of black tights, chunky boots, and sleek sunglasses goes lengths to making them feel more grown-up.

Arket releases a cream cable-knit every year—here’s the 2022 version.

So many influencers own these stylish shades.

Monki is my go-to for preppy staples.

Style Notes: The Wild West’s influence on fashion always makes a comeback in the autumn months as we begin to reach for cowboy boots and suede jackets once more. Where you might have chosen one cowboy-inspired piece per outfit last year, for 2022, it’s about embracing the trend throughout your look. Jo-Ann’s long bootcut jeans and natty bandana knotted around her neck might be subtle, but make no mistake—they’re Western through and through.

This might be the most impressive suede jacket on the market.

Phase Eight denim is really underrated.

A refined take on traditional cowboy boots we’ve come to know.
