Edmonton Oilers scorer Evander Kane is expected to be out three to four months after suffering a skate cut to his wrist against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
The team announced Wednesday that Kane, 31, has been placed on LTIR.
During a second-period battle for the puck during which Kane had fallen, Tampa winger Patrick Maroon’s skate blade appeared to cut Kane’s wrist.
Kane was bleeding badly on the ice immediately after the play and rushed off the ice, clutching his wrist.
“His eyes were as wide as a person’s can be,” Oilers star Connor McDavid said. “We got the sense of how alarming it was. How scared he was, and we’re all scared for him.
“To be honest, I don’t handle that stuff very well. I haven’t even seen the replay, and probably won’t watch it.”
Kane was transported to hospital and was to undergo wrist surgery.
Holland said after the game that Kane had a deep cut on his wrist and was in stable condition.
In a tweet Wednesday morning, Kane thanked the medical staffs of both teams for their quick action.
Mattias Janmark and Klim Kostin were recalled by the Oilers from the AHL Condors.
