‘Game of the year’: Football world mind-blown by Bills-Vikings finish

“We said this was going to be the game of the week,” said play-by-play man Joe Davis. “It’s turned into the game of the season.”

Fans had their brains melted by the most dramatic finish to a game in recent memory courtesy of the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills.

The Vikings, down 27-10 late in the third quarter, scored twice in the fourth but missed the second extra point.

Needing a touchdown, they drove the length of the field, punctuated by an all-time grab by wide receiver Justin Jefferson—on 4th and 18, Jefferson made a leaping, contested one-handed snag for 32 yards.

The Vikings pushed it to the goal line, and then things got really wild. On fourth down, Dalvin Cook dropped a sure touchdown pass, but Buffalo had gone offside. The Vikings got another shot, but Kirk Cousins came up short on the QB sneak.

The Bills got the ball back with the lead and less than a minute on the clock, and immediately fumbled their own QB sneak—which Minnesota recovered in the endzone for a touchdown to put them ahead.

Just when you thought it was over, the Bills marched right back (with the help of a spectacular, controversial catch by Gabe Davis) and hit a field goal with two seconds left to send the game to OT.

In OT, Patrick Peterson recorded his second end zone INT of the game to ice the improbable Vikings win.

Social media was in disbelief:
