With the trade deadline coming to a close, catch up on every trade and transaction that went down during an eventful day around the NBA.
Los Angeles Clippers receive: Mason Plumlee
Charlotte Hornets receive: Reggie Jackson
The Clippers, in their third-move of the day bring in veteran big man Mason Plumlee to backup Ivica Zubac. A position of needed going into the deadline, they have now bolstered their depth here and in their backcourt. The former Duke product has enjoyed a productive season, averaging a 12.2 points and 9.7 rebounds, both career-highs.
Charlotte meanwhile acquire veteran guard Reggie Jackson who has averaged 10.9 points, 3.5 assists and 0.7 steals this season. According to Shams Charania, the Hornets are likely to buy him out.
New Orleans Pelicans receive: Josh Richardson
San Antonio Spurs receive: Devonte’ Graham, four second-round picks
The New Orleans Perlicans get in on the madness, acquiring guard Josh Richardson to help with their shooting woes. Richardson, 29, is averaging 11.5 points on nearly 36 per cent from deep this season, good for fourth on the Pelicans for players that have at least three attempts per game.
On the other side of the deal, San Antonio continues to build up their war chest of draft picks, acquiring four more future selections.
Los Angeles Lakers receive: Mo Bamba
Orlando Magic receive: Patrick Beverley, future second-round pick
After trading away centre Thomas Bryant, the Lakers replenish the position by acquiring Mo Bamba from the Magic. The former sixth-overall pick in 2018 was signed to a two-year extension last offseason. So far this year he has averaged 7.3 points on nearly 50 per cent from the field and 40 per cent from deep. He has also managed 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 block per game.
The Magic on the other hand acquire veteran guard Patrick Beverly, a defence-first signing that could bolster the young team’s identity on that side of the court.
Los Angeles Clippers receive: Eric Gordon, three second-round picks
Houston Rockets receive: John Wall, Danny Green, picks TBD
Memphis Grizzlies receive: Luke Kennard
The Los Angeles Clippers have revamped their backcourt, adding veteran guard Eric Gordon and three second-round picks in a three-team trade. Gordon, 34, has averaged 13.1 points this year, shooting 35 per cent from beyond the arc.
Memphis acquires some much needed shooting in Luke Kennard from the Clippers. The sixth-year 3-point specialist is scoring 7.8 points per game this year (the lowest mark of his career since his rookie season) but is still shooting nearly 45 per cent from deep, good for fifth league-wide.
The Rockets meanwhile reunite with guard John Wall and have also acquired former Raptor Danny Green in what is likely a salary dump from both the Clippers and Grizzlies. Wall is expected to be bought out after this deal. They also acquired future draft selections yet to be named.
Atlanta Hawks receive: Garrison Matthews, Bruno Fernando
Houston Rockets receive: Justin Holiday, Frank Kaminsky, two second-round picks
Atlanta makes their second move of the day, bringing in guard Garrison Matthews and centre Bruno Fernando in an effort to add depth to their roster. Matthews has averaged 4.8 points and shot 34 per cent from deep on 3.4 attempts per game. Fernando meanwhile gives the Hawks depth at the four and has averaged 4.1 points and 1.0 blocks per game in limited minutes.
Houston on the other hand bring in two veteran players in Holiday and Kaminsky, with both suddenly becoming some of the oldest players on the roster. They also stock up on two additional second-rounders.
Atlanta Hawks receive: Saddiq Bey
Golden State Warriors receive: Gary Payton II, five second-round picks
Detroit Pistons receive: James Wiseman
Portland Trail Blazers receive: Kevin Knox, five second-round picks
The Atlanta Hawks make their first move of the deadline, acquiring scoring-wing Saddiq Bey in a three-team deal. Bey has averaged 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds on 34 per cent from beyond the arc this season and brings additional offensive depth on the wing for the Hawks.
The Warriors on the other hand load up on draft picks after sending away the former 2nd-overall selection James Wiseman in what is being seen as a move to dump salary. Golden State was deep into the luxury tax and Wiseman was set to make $12 million next season.
The Pistons continue their youth movement, acquiring Wiseman to pair with Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and their 13th overall pick from this year’s draft Jalen Duren.
Gary Payton II was a surprise add-on to the deal which sees the defence-first combo-guard reunite with the Golden State Warriors. He was key in their championship run last season, averaging 1.4 steals per game last season.
Phoenix Suns receive: Darius Bazley
Oklahoma City Thunder receive: Dario Saric, second-round pick
The Phoenix Suns continue a productive trade deadline, acquiring forward Darius Bazley from the Thunder. After dealing wings Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder for Kevin Durant, the frontcourt depth chart was left lacking. They chose to bring in the 22-year-old Bazley who is averaging 5.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks this season. Over the two seasons prior, he averaged 12.1 points in a larger role in OKC.
Oklahoma City on the other hand continue their fire-sale of roleplayers and continues to accumulate draft assets. Saric is set to become a free agent this Summer and is currently on the books for $9.2 million.
Los Angeles Clippers receive: Bones Hyland
Denver Nuggets receive: 2024 second-round pick, 2025 second-round pick
The Los Angeles Clippers, who have been in the market for an upgrade in their backcourt, acquire 2nd-year guard Bones Hyland from the Denver Nuggets. Hyland has averaged 12.1 points and 3.0 assists on 40 per cent from the field and 38 per cent from deep off the bench this season. It was reported that Hyland was unhappy in Denver and wanted a larger role.
The Nuggets meanwhile stock back up on second-round picks after dealing away a trio of selections to acquire Thomas Bryant from the Lakers.
Portland Trail Blazers receive: Matisse Thybulle
Philadelphia 76ers receive: Jalen McDaniels
Charlotte Hornets receive: Svi Mykhailiuk, Knicks 2024 second-round pick (via Trail Blazers), 2029 Trail Blazers second-round pick
The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired Jalen McDaniels, adding two-way depth on the wing. McDaniels, a fourth-year forward, is enjoying his most productive season to date, averaging 10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
Portland, after trading wing Josh Hart to the New York Knicks, stock back up on that position, but with a more defensively-minded Thybulle. The Australian wing has had his least productive season to date, averaging only 2.7 points and 0.9 steals.
Charlotte meanwhile part with a player who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and acquired two future second-rounders in the process.
Denver Nuggets receive: Thomas Bryant
Los Angeles Lakers receive: Davon Reed, 2025, 2026, and 2029 second round picks
Bryant, in his short stint with the Lakers, has averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds this year and is shooting 44 per cent from long range. In return, Los Angeles received three second-round picks that could be used in trades for addtional moves. Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report reports that Bryant asked to be traded following a cut to his minutes.
The Nuggets were starved for centre depth behind back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic and acquired the 25-year-old Bryant, currently playing on a minimum contract, to bolster their bench.
Milwaukee Bucks receive: Jae Crowder
Brooklyn Nets receive: Three second-round picks
Indiana Pacers receive: George Hill, Serge Ibaka, Jordan Nwora, two future second-round picks
The Milwaukee Bucks are shoring up their wing depth by adding Jae Crowder. The 32-year-old forward has held out this season, stating he wanted to be dealt from Phoenix. He now joins his second team in less than 12 hours, as he was originally a piece in the Kevin Durant trade. Last season, Crowder averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals on 35 per cent from deep.
The Nets continue to replenish their draft assets, acquiring a decent haul of five future second-round selections to pair with the four firsts they got from Phoenix.
Indiana meanwhile receives the 24-year-old Nwora, who has averaged 6.0 points on 39 per cent from deep this season, and two future second-round picks. Former Raptor Serge Ibaka and George Hill have also been included in the deal. They waived centre Goga Bitadze in a corresponding move and Ibaka is also likely to be waived.
Boston Celtics receive: Mike Muscala
Oklahoma City Thunder receive: Justin Jackson, two second-round picks
The Boston Celtics have acquired centre/forward Mike Muscala to add to their depth down the middle. The big man can stretch the floor, shooting 39 per cent from long range this season on 3.3 attempts per game.
In Justin Jackson, the Thunder have acquired a 27-year-old wing who has played 4.7 minutes per game this year without much to show for it. They also add to their seemingly never-ending bevy of draft capital with two future second-round selections.
Phoenix Suns receive: Kevin Durant, T.J. Warren
Brooklyn Nets receive: Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027, 2029), 2028 first-round pick-swap
In a blockbuster move, the Phoenix Suns have acquired 13-time all-star Kevin Durant, completely changing the landscape in the Western Conference. Despite now being sidelined with a knee injury, the superstar forward has averaged 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in his age-34 season. They also bring back forward T.J. Warren who was drafted by the Suns in 2014.
The Nets meanwhile have re-stocked their draft cache and have made a sharp 180 turn in the past few days, trading away Durant and Kyrie Irving. After dealing away the majority of their future selections to acquire James Harden in 2021, they acquired four unprotected picks from the Suns as well as younger roleplayers in Bridges and Johnson. Bridges has averaged 17.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists this year while Johnson is averaging 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 45 per cent from beyond the arc.
Toronto Raptors receive: Jakob Poeltl
San Antonio Spurs receive: Khem Birch, 2024 first-round pick (protected 1-6), 2023 second-round pick, 2025 second-round pick
The Toronto Raptors have brought back 27-year-old centre Jakob Poeltl who they traded away in the deal to bring in Kawhi Leonard in 2018. Poeltl alleviates a position of need for the Raptors, slotting in as their paint-protecting big man. The Austrian has averaged 12.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 blocks per game this season.
In return, the Spurs receive Canadian forward/centre Khem Birch who hasn’t seen much playing time this year in Toronto. They also acquire the Raptors’ 2024 first-round pick (protected 1-6 per Hoopshype’s Michael A. Scotto) and unprotected second-round selections in 2023 and 2025. The Spurs now have 26 future picks from now until 2029 including 14 first-rounders.
New York Knicks receive: Josh Hart
Portland Trail Blazers receive: Cam Reddish, Svi Mykhailiuk, Ryan Arciadono, 2023 first-round pick (lottery protected)
The New York Knicks have added to their wing depth, bringing in Josh Hart, a 27-year-old guard/forward from the Portland Trail Blazers. Hart has averaged 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season. He is also shooting 30 per cent from deep, a step back from his 37 per cent hit rate after being dealt to the Blazers last season.
Portland meanwhile acquire young wing Cam Reddish who hasn’t worked out since he was dealt to the Knicks last season. So far this year he’s averaging 8.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists. They also receive the Knicks’ upcoming first-round pick, however, it’s lottery protected, and if it doesn’t transfer, it turns into four future second-round selections.
Los Angeles Lakers receive: D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt
Utah Jazz receive: Russell Westbrook, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Damian Jones, 2027 first-round pick (protected 1-4)
Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Mike Conley, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, lesser of Washington-Memphis second-round 2024 pick, Utah second-round picks in 2025 and 2026
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a huge move to revamp the depth on their roster, acquiring three roleplayers for Russell Westbrook and their 2027 first-round pick (protected 1-4). They reunite with guard D’Angelo Russell who has averaged 17.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists on 39 per cent from long range this year.
They also acquire Beasley who has scored 13.4 points per game this year on 36 per cent shooting from deep and Vanderbilt, a 23-year-old forward averaging 8.3 points and 7.9 rebounds this season.
Utah meanwhile continues to add to its ever-growing draft assets, acquiring yet another first-round pick, this time the Lakers’ 2027 selection. They also receive nine-time all-star Russell Westbrook, who is reportedly likely to be bought out.
The Timberwolves replace D’Angelo Russell with Mike Conley as their starting guard, reuniting him with former teammate Rudy Gobert. They have waived guard Bryn Forbes in a corresponding move.
Miami Heat receive: Cash
San Antonio Spurs receive: Dewayne Dedmon, 2028 second-round pick
In an effort to clear salary, the Miami Heat have traded Dewayne Dedmon and a 2028 second-rounder to the San Antonio Spurs. Dedmon, a 10th-year big, has averaged 5.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 11.7 minutes per game this season and is expected to be waived by the Spurs.
Sacramento Kings receive: Kessler Edwards, cash
Brooklyn Nets receive: Draft rights to David Michineau
The Brooklyn Nets traded away 22-year-old forward Kessler Edwards and cash to the Sacramento Kings in a move to alleviate cap space and clear up a roster spot for any potential moves the team may make.
Edwards has played in 14 games this season, averaging 1.1 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.1 assists in 5.6 minutes a night.
Dallas Mavericks receive: Kyrie Irving, Markieff Morris
Brooklyn Nets receive: Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, 2029 first-round pick, 2027 second-round pick, 2029 second-round pick
With the deal finalized, the Mavericks have officially brought in superstar guard Kyrie Irving to pair with superstar Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade.
In a shocking turn of events, Irving requested to be traded from the Nets on Feb. 3 after a tumultuous four seasons with the franchise. He has averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists this season.
On the return, the Nets reunite with guard Spencer Dinwiddie who is averaging 17.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists this year. They also received the defensive-minded Dorian Finney-Smith who is signed through the 2025-2026 season for an average of $13.8 million per year.
Los Angeles Lakers receive: Rui Hachimura
Washington Wizards receive: Kendrick Nunn, 2023 second-round pick(via Chicago), 2029 second-round pick, 2028 second-round pick-swap
The first in-season trade this year sees the Lakers acquire former 2019 top-10 selection Rui Hachimura from the Wizards for Kendrick Nunn and an assortment of picks.
Hachimura adds to the Lakers’ forward depth and has put up solid numbers this season, averaging 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists with Washington this season. The Wizards meanwhile are acquiring Kendrick Nunn, an undrafted guard who saw his best years with the Miami Heat from 2019 to 2021.
