7 Spring Trouser Trends Our Editors Can't Stop Thinking About

Is it just me, or do trousers seem to be dominating the trends more than ever before? In 2022, phrases like ‘wide leg’ and ‘puddle pants’ hovered constantly at the tip of our tongues, and this year, our vocabulary has grown to include even more specific trouser styles. Cargos, joggers and low-slung waistlines have all shimmied their way into the spotlight, occupying a record-breaking portion of our SS23 trend guide. While pulling it together, we found out that trouser searches on Lyst leapt up 55% post-Fashion Month, according to Morgane Le Caer, fashion expert and content editor at Lyst. It’s not just me, then; trousers are evidently in their element this year.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the plethora of pants competing for your attention, don’t fret—I’ve consulted with the Who What Wear team to identify exactly which trousers are worthy of your wish list this season. Drawing inspiration from our favourite influencers, plus keeping in mind the styles that reigned during this month’s LFW, we’ve whittled it down to just seven trouser trends for you to consider for spring. Whether you’re a minimalist at heart or a proud maximalist, you’ll find a pair for you in the list below.

Style Notes: We collectively fell in love with wide-leg trousers in 2023, and this season, they’re wider than ever. The styling options are boundless for this versatile shape.

Editor’s pick: In the words of our Affiliate Editor, Emily, “these are the closest thing to perfection that I’ve found.”

This simple design should slot into your wardrobe no problem.

I’m obsessed with this camel-on-camel styling.

Just imagine pulling these out of your suitcase on the first night of a balmy getaway. Bliss.

Style Notes: Leather in all its forms is a key trend for 2023. A pair of faux or real leather trousers will add a distinct edge to your outfit, especially if you double up with a matching blazer.

At that price, how could you say no?

If you thought Rouje just made pretty dresses, you were missing out on gems like these red leather trousers.

Nanushka’s vegan leather is just so buttery soft, no one could blame you for mistaking it for the real thing.

The drawstring waist is a gamechanger.

Style Notes: Hands up if you have a love/hate relationship with cargos. Same, but the stream of influencers trialling this trend (and making it look undeniably chic) have convinced me to give it a go.

Editor’s pick: Our Editor-in-Chief, Hannah Almassi, really rates these cargos. “I think Me + Em’s trousers fit really well, and I like their smart take on a cargo.”

You’ll be grateful for this lightweight pair in the warmer months.

This colour makes me SO excited for spring.

Editor’s pick: Though normally not a trouser girl, our Deputy Editor Maxine has been swayed by these subtle cargo pants.

Style Notes: In another nod to the noughties, low-waist trousers are back with a bang. Fitted T-shirts seem to be the most popular styling choice, but we’ve also seen this silhouette bravely teamed with ultra-crop tops.

Low-waisted trousers don’t necessitate showing more skin—try styling these with a slouchy jumper.

Just wow.

On-trend and on-sale. What are you waiting for!?

You’ll never run out of ways to wear these.

Style Notes: For your next night out, you won’t find a more striking option than metallic trousers. Ease yourself into this statement trend by keeping the rest of the look simple—think neutral shades and streamlined silhouettes.

Cross off two trends at once with these metallic leather trousers.

Arket can do no wrong in my eyes.

Another two-trend piece.

I love the tapered shape of these trousers.

Style Notes: We’re particularly excited about this one because it puts comfort first. Joggers have been given the dressy treatment this season, featuring subtle tailoring and crafted from luxury materials.

These are Monikh’s exact track pants, and they’re selling out quick.

Wear these to brunch or Friday night drinks.

Try finding a pair more comfortable than these.

Imagine wearing these with a camel coat and sneakers for a laid-back Saturday afternoon.

Style Notes: Good news if you’re already a slim-leg devotee: this tried-and-tested style has been given a new lease of life for 2023. Not only is the cut super flattering, but it’s also incredibly easy to build outfits around.

Editor’s pick: Poppy Nash, Who What Wear’s Managing Editor, will be counting on COS to meet all her slim-leg trouser needs this season—starting with this sleek pair.

Naturally, I’ll be buying the whole set.

That slight flare is also really current.

Show off your favourite heels with these split-hem trousers.
