We’ve long held a fascination with Princess Diana and her era-defining style, and with the most recent season of The Crown and the fashion world’s newfound obsession with all things ‘80s, the wardrobe of this iconic royal feels more relevant than ever. There’s one Diana-approved trend in particular which is incredibly popular in summer 2020, however, and that’s the pie crust collar blouse.
A mainstay of the ’80s wardrobe, the ruffle-collar blouse graced many a Princess Di outfit, combining her Sloane Ranger chic with nods to trends of the day. Whether it was with pinstripe trousers or a midi skirt, the royal both demonstrated the versatility of the style and cemented its place in the fashion halls of fame.
With 2019’s fascination with covered-up silhouettes, it’s no surprise that the pie crust collar is seeing a resurgence in this year. Fashion folk have been styling theirs with high-waisted jeans and boots for an authentically throwback look. Also, Alexa Chung has long been a fan of the ruffle, and if that’s not a reason to try it, then we don’t know what is. Scroll down to see and shop our favourite ruffle-collar blouses.
