The Jeans Trends We're Taking Note of in 2020

Whether you’re a loyal skinny-jeans lover or a straight-leg convert, jeans are, for most of us, the lifeblood of our wardrobes. Able to be elevated with heels and a nice top or dressed down with a white tee and boots, they have got to be one of the most versatile and hardworking items we own. So really, finding the perfect pair should be at the top of your shopping priority list.

As it’s such a staple, we don’t like being too prescriptive about which styles you should buy. However, if you’re in the market for a new pair in 2020, there are certain fits that are sure to get you the nod of approval from fashion folks. At the top of the list has to be flared, the ‘70s staple that was all over the runways at fashion week. Leg-lengthening and personality-packed, they’re perfect for a more polished evening look.

There are also plenty of classics: Think black skinny jeans, which are ideal for tucking into boots; straight-leg jeans for ’80s-inspired appeal; and wide-leg denim. Scroll down to see and shop our full edit of 2020’s biggest denim trends.

Style Notes: This is my favourite denim style for 2020. I wear mine on a weekly basis with tucked-in blouses and heeled boots for a throwback, leg-lengthening appeal.

Style Notes: This might not be the most groundbreaking offering on the list, but humble black skinny jeans have had a bit of a resurgence this season. Fashion girls have been wearing theirs with fine knits and chunky boots.

Style Notes: Wide-leg jeans might sound intimidating, but in fact, they can be an easy way to give your outfit more drama. Whether you tuck in a tee or embrace the oversize silhouette, this is a surefire head-turner.

Style Notes: One of the more divisive denim trends, the ’90s boot-cut won’t be for everyone, but it’s a fun option if you’re in need of a less ubiquitous jeans silhouette. Make like Basic Touch and style yours with a blazer and heeled sandals.

Style Notes: Yes, that’s right—straight-leg jeans are here to stay. An icon of ’80s fashion, this ridgid, slim-fitting style is one of the more versatile offerings. Our favourite iteration for 2020, however, comes in pale blue.
