The Unexpected '90s Trend that Has Got Gen Z's Stamp of Approval

Almost every day Gen Z uncovers another 90’s motif to bring into the present day. We’ve tapped into the cargo pant trend, shared our love for baby tee’s and even noted the capri pant return. (Here’s hoping they don’t find out about chain wallets). Wherever you look, the 90’s influence is clear, and for those who grew up in the era, it is an incredibly nostalgic moment. For summer, the newest trend that Gen Z has approved of is the halter top trend. And truly, it’s my favourite one yet.

As a self-proclaimed minimalist, finding points of difference to a neutral outfit can be difficult. That’s why I have such a thing about necklines. What makes one plain black top different to another is all in the composition, and a halter-neck is a great way to add intrigue to a look whilst remaining in your aesthetic. Especially come summertime, when many are looking to show more skin and shed any unnecessary fabric, a halter-neck tends to accompany an open back, making it not only incredibly chic, but very much a clever choice on the warmest days.

Lucky for us, brands have clocked on to the trend early and have an array of halter tops on offer. There’s everything from simple classics to trending corsage styles, plus intricate crochet versions and even a few long sleeve options if you’re preparing for the cooler months.

Ready to explore the halter top trend? Let’s go!

Take note from Marina above and pair with trending striped trousers.

Corsages are the moment, and you’re sure to find a few in this edit. What did I say about corsages?

This striking orange top won’t stick around for long.

Linen is a key component of summer styling.

What did I say about corsages?

Truthfully, I haven’t stopped thinking about this one.

There’s so much craftspersonship in this elegant drape.

Style with anything from wide-leg white trousers to a denim maxi skirt.

The back of this is truly beautiful.

From the ring detail to the burnt orange hue, I’m a big fan.

You’ll be making plans just to show this off.

Reiss manages to add a dash of elegance to any item.

Coperni always gets it right.

You’d never guess this was from the high street.

Seriously summery.

The cut outs are a nice touch.

This also comes in classic beige and dreamy blue.

Handkerchief hemlines are another throwback I’m a fan of.

There’s nothing I love more than a cool co-ord.

This has me packing my suitcase.

Simplicity never fails.

The styling is perfection.
