The Chic Trousers Fashion People Reach for When They’re Bored of Jeans

Over the years, trousers have become a key feature within our capsule wardrobes. From classic tailoring to trending cargo pants and of course, humble jeans, trousers are a staple. On most days, you’re likely to find me in a pair of trousers rather than a dress, unless it’s the height of summer. Jeans in particular are my daily go-to (so long as I’m not at home, otherwise it’s strictly joggers or leggings), but even the most dedicated denim wearer needs a breather. When that time comes, leather straight-leg trousers are the first in line.

The wonder of leather trousers is in their versatility. Previously written off as uncomfortable or trend-led, leather trousers have worked hard to reclaim their relevance in not only our evening wardrobes, but our daytime ones too, and it’s thanks to their ease of styling and instant elevation that they offer. A simple tee can be a fashion-forward look with leather-coated trousers, or a slinky top can be refined for evening with these accompanying bottoms.

In the cooler months, leather truly comes into its own, as an opposing texture to soft knits that adds an intriguing contrast, and in turn, creates a pretty chic combination. Designers have caught on to our infatuation with leather, and now offer a range of faux and vegan leather alternatives to suit all personal preferences and budgets alike. What’s more, we’re no longer confined just to black pieces, with an array of colours on offer. Whether you’re hitting the high street or exploring high-end designers, leather straight-leg trousers consistently feature as a great addition to any wardrobe.

As summer has cooled down (for now), I’ve already pulled out my leather trousers for both day and nighttime looks. And it seems some of our fashion friends have done the same, providing plenty of style inspiration, as you’ll see below.

Without further ado, let’s dive into how fashion people are styling leather straight-leg trousers, and I’ve also added a selection of shoppable options to save you scrolling time, too.
