Blue Jays scratch Jansen with wrist inflammation, stick with Schneider vs. Red Sox

Catcher Danny Jansen will miss the Toronto Blue Jays‘ second game against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday due to right wrist inflammation.

While originally slotted in to play, the club switched Jansen out of the lineup for Alejandro Kirk.

Meanwhile, rookie Davis Schneider will get another start at second base.

Schneider, 24, made headlines on Friday when he became the fourth Blue Jay to ever homer in their first major league at-bat, taking a James Paxton cutter and sending it into the seats above the Green Monster. Toronto went on to win the game 7-3.

Schneider was recalled before Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox after hitting 21-home runs with triple-A Buffalo. He followed up his homer with a hustle-single when he ran out an infield hit to deep second base.

Veteran Brandon Belt will re-enter the lineup at DH, while Daulton Varsho gets another start in centre field. Kevin Kiermaier came on in the ninth inning on Friday night, but once again will start a game on the bench.

Jose Berríos (8-7, 3.31 ERA) gets the start on the mound for the Blue Jays.

The game can be viewed on Sportsnet and SN NOW at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT.
