First-overall pick Connor Bedard has scored his first NHL goal in his second game for the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday against the Boston Bruins.
The presumptive next generational talent of the league scored 5:37 into the first period on a wrap-around, beating Vezina Trophy-winner Linus Ullmark and tucking it in off the right post to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead.
It was Bedard’s second point in as many games after notching his first assist on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a season-opening win.
The 18-year-old rookie from North Vancouver, B.C., was selected first overall by the Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL Draft after having an exceptional draft year, starring for the Regina Pats of the WHL and leading Canada to world junior gold.
In 57 regular-season games for the Pats, Bedard had 71 goals and 143 points. He added another 20 points in seven playoff games. Similarly, Bedard impressed during the 2023 world junior championship with nine goals and 23 points in seven games.
