Celebs and Editors All Agree: Bomber Jackets Make Every Outfit Look Cooler

This season, we’ve spotted a number of new jacket trends flourish with the support of celebrities and the style set. It’s very clear that leather trench coats are the longline style of choice, and that bouclé jackets have enjoyed a renaissance yet again for the new season. But, whilst new silhouettes bubble up, you can see that there’s a clear leaning towards classic elevated jacket styles that stand the test of time—and there’s one more I’d like to bring to your attention.

The bomber jacket remains as relevant as ever by retaining its time-tested shape but evolving its cuts and fabrics with changing trends. Case in point: This season’s bomber jackets feature some 2023 tweaks that modernise the classic cut. We’re seeing plenty of wool styles influenced by the bouclé trend, along with other iterations in trending shades of grey and beige—which were spotted all over the outerwear worn in LondonParis and New York this fashion month. These fresh bomber styles feel totally current and effortlessly wearable.

As with so many leather items, leather bomber jackets are also trending hard. Recently spotted on Elsa Hosk, who expertly styled hers with easy, straight-leg jeans, the leather bomber is a rising trend set to prevail all autumn and winter long. In terms of cuts, the cropped bomber jacket has been creeping onto the scene, on offer from designer brands including Acne Studios and high-street retailers such as COS. Baggier, longer styles continue to trend, with compelling versions at Reformation and Massimo Dutti.

Styling well with straight-leg or wide-leg jeans, and looking equally as chic paired with your favourite mini, there are very few styling instances that don’t work with this slouchy jacket. Are bomber jackets in style for 2023? You bet they are! From trending wool styles to new leather options, read on to shop my edit of the best bomber jackets available to buy this season.
