Rangers rout Astros to force winner-take-all Game 7 in ALCS

The Battle of Texas is going the distance.

The Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros 9-2 in Game 6 of the ALCS to keep their season alive Sunday night.

The winner-take-all Game 7 in the ALCS will be Monday night in Houston. (Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).

Adolis Garcia broke the game open with a grand slam in the top of the ninth after the Astros left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth while trailing 4-2.

The Astros jumped out to an early lead when Yordan Alvarez drove in Jose Altuve with a bloop single in the first. But Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi locked in after that, going six and a third innings with five hits, four strikeouts and three walks.

The Rangers tied the game in the second, when Mitch Garver took Astros ace Framber Valdez deep for a solo shot. Jonah Heim extended that lead to 3-1 with a two-run shot that just got over Kyle Tucker’s glove in right field.

The Astros cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth but the Rangers got some insurance in the eighth after an RBI double from Garver.

The win by the Rangers means the road teams are now a perfect 6-0 in this series.
