The Texas Rangers are headed back to the World Series for the first time since 2011.
In a winner-take-all Game 7 in the ALCS against the Houston Astros, the Rangers mashed their way to a dominating 11–4 win. The script played out exactly like it did in the 2019 World Series, with the road team winning each game of the series and with Max Scherzer starting the final game for the victorious team.
After dropping three straight games at home, the Rangers came back to Minute Maid Park down 3-2 in the series and ripped off back-to-back wins to win the American League pennant and improve to 8-0 on the road this post-season.
Texas chased Astros starter Cristian Javier before the 26-year-old could record two outs. The Rangers’ offence put up three runs in the first inning and didn’t look back.
Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe all hit home runs as part of the team’s 15-hit effort in the game. Garcia picked up four of those hits — two being home runs — on his way to breaking the record for most RBI in a single League Championship Series.
Scherzer lasted just 2.2 innings, allowing two runs before turning the ball over to Game 5 starter Jordan Montgomery, who worked 2.1 scoreless just three days after throwing 82 pitches.
The Rangers will now await either the Philadelphia Phillies or Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series, pending Tuesday’s Game 7 result. Texas will have home-field advantage over either team in the Fall Classic.
