Garcia’s walk-off homer lifts Rangers to Game 1 win over Diamondbacks in World Series

Adolis Garcia launched a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to lift the Texas Rangers to a 6-5 extra-inning win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the 2023 World Series.

The Rangers needed heroics from 2020 World Series MVP Corey Seager just to force the extra-inning game.

Down to their final two outs in the ninth inning, Seager launched a two-run home run off Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald to even the game, setting up extra innings.

The Rangers needed the late-game comeback after falling behind in the fourth inning when Tommy Pham launched a no-doubter to left.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Diamondbacks offence got to Nathan Eovaldi with runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Corbin Carroll ripped a two-RBI triple in the top of the third before coming in to score, helping Arizona get on the board after Eovaldi looked to be in control early. Pham hit a solo shot in the fourth before Ketel Marte extended his playoff-hitting streak to 17 games with an RBI double to build a two-run lead the very next inning.

Zac Gallen got the start for the Diamondbacks and after allowing two runs in the first, bounced back to cover five innings before turning the game over to the bullpen with the lead.

The Rangers bullpen worked six scoreless innings of relief on the way to a 1-0 series lead.
