Garcia and Scherzer leave early, Rangers hold off Diamondbacks to take Game 3

Corey Seager ripped a two-run home run in the Texas Rangers‘ three-run third, and the pitching staff shut down the Arizona Diamondbacks to take a 2-1 lead in the World Series with a 3-1 win.

Despite losing Max Scherzer to back tightness in the fourth inning, the Rangers’ bullpen carried the load, delivering six innings of one-run ball.

Adolis Garcia also left early after taking an awkward swing in the eighth inning. The ALCS MVP was ruled out with left-side tightness.

Jon Gray continued his excellence in this World Series, throwing three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

Brandon Pfaadt got the start for the Diamondbacks and delivered 5.1 innings, but gave up a two-out RBI single to Marcus Semien before allowing Seager’s two-run blast.

The Diamondbacks were kept off the scoreboard until the eighth inning when Emmanuel Rivera doubled off Aroldis Chapman was was driven in by a Geraldo Perdomo single.

Tommy Pham picked up right where he left off after his four-hit Game 2, going 2-for-4 Monday night with a single and a double.

In best-of-seven series in the MLB post-season that were tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 has gone on to take the series 69 per cent of the time.

The Rangers improved to 9-0 on the road so far in these playoffs.

Game 4 goes Tuesday night at 8:03 p.m. ET / 5:03 p.m. PT at Chase Field. Gray was scheduled to start the game, so both starters are TBD, but Arizona is expected to go with a bullpen game.
