Pistons lose 28th-straight game to tie record after blowing big lead vs. Celtics

The Detroit Pistons fell to the Boston Celtics 128-122 in overtime to extend the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history.

The Pistons led by as much as 21 in the game and had a 19-point lead at halftime but the Celtics rallied all the way back to win and stay perfect (15-0) on home court this season.

The Pistons have now lost 28 straight, which ties the 76ers for longest-losing streak overall after they lost 28 during a skid that started in the 2014-15 season and carried over into 2015-16.

Detroit’s last win came on Oct. 28, a 118-102 victory over the Bulls that at the time improved the Pistons’ record to 2-1.

The East-leading Celtics entered the game as a massive betting favourite but stumbled out of the gate as the Pistons took a 19-point lead into halftime.

However, the game swung back for Boston after a 35-16 third quarter and the teams entered the final frame tied 82-82. The score remained close through the fourth quarter but the Pistons were able to force overtime after a tipped-in basket by Bogdan Bogdanovic with four seconds left to tie the game at 108-108.

Derrick White had 10 points in overtime to lead the Celtics to victory.
