Blue Jays’ Gausman has sore shoulder but no structural damage

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman has a sore shoulder but no structural damage after undergoing an MRI, according to manager John Schneider.

Schneider revealed the news about his ace pitcher on Monday. The soreness has prevented Gausman from pitching in any of the team’s Grapefruit League games so far, according to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.

Gausman was scheduled to throw a two-inning live bullpen Monday, Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling adds. “We’ll take it day-to-day and see how he bounces back,” said Schneider.

The team is hopeful that Gausman, who went 12-9 with a 3.16 ERA in 2023, can resume ramping up for the season soon.

Other news out of Dunedin:

+ Pitcher Yariel Rodriguez is set to throw some live batting practice on Friday, having had a good side session on Monday.

+ Alek Manoah, who is also dealing with shoulder issues, will play catch on Monday, before the Jays figure out a plan for him going forward.

+ Catcher Danny Jansen was scratched from Monday’s game against the Phillies in Dunedin with a fever and sent home. He is expected back in camp on Tuesday.
