Blue Jays’ Jansen expected to miss two weeks with wrist injury

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen has a fractured bone near his right wrist, the team announced Friday.

Manager John Schneider said Jansen was hurt when he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday’s spring-training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The team is hopeful Jansen will miss only a couple of weeks.

The timeline means Jansen is unlikely to be available for opening day on March 28 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jansen has battled injuries throughout his pro career.

• In 2014, he suffered an ACL sprain and meniscus tear in his left knee;
• In 2015, an opponent’s backswing broke his left hand;
• In 2016, he had surgery on the hamate bone in his left hand;
• In 2021, a pair of hamstring strains interrupted what was becoming a breakout offensive season;
• In 2022, there was a left oblique strain before fracturing the fifth metacarpal in his left hand.
• In 2023, there was a right middle-finger fracture.
