Oilers clinch playoff berth with win over Avalanche

The Edmonton Oilers are officially going back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Oilers clinched their berth with a 6-2 regulation win to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.

Edmonton currently sits in second place in the Pacific Division, trailing the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers have made the playoffs in five straight seasons, dating back to the 2019-20 campaign where they lost in the qualifying round to the Chicago Blackhawks.

If the current standings held, the Oilers would match up with Pacific Division rival and defending Cup champion Golden Knights in the first round of the post-season.

Last season, Edmonton was eliminated by Vegas in a six-game, second-round series.
