Auston Matthews‘ rise up the Toronto Maple Leafs all-time franchise scoring leaderboard has been nothing short of spectacular since first putting on the blue and white.
Currently, in an all-time scoring season, the Leafs’ phenom netted his 67th goal of the season Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils. But more notably perhaps, he netted his 366th career goal, snapping a tie with franchise legend Dave Keon for third place on the all-time list.
Matthews would then move two ahead of his Keon when he scored his 68th goal of the season in the second period.
Keon, who starred for the Maple Leafs in the 60s and 70s, spent 15 seasons in Toronto, finishing with 365 goals in 1,062 games.
Matthews, meanwhile, is in the midst of his eighth season with the club and claimed the third spot on the leaderboard in just 559 games.
Next up on the list is Darryl Sittler, who has 389 goals with the Leafs. Atop the list is Mats Sundin with 420, meaning Matthews is only 53 goals away from claiming the top spot, a more than achievable goal next season for the hot-handed superstar.
Moreover, his first goal against the Devils was his 50th even-strength goal of the season, becoming the first player to hit that mark since Teemu Selanne did in the 1992-93 season.
