Craig Berube far down the road to be next Maple Leafs head coach

Quickie blog heading into the weekend:

Nothing is finalized, but multiple sources indicated Friday that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Craig Berube are far down the road on the process of becoming the team’s next head coach.

Berube, bench boss of the 2019 Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues, played 40 games for the Maple Leafs in 1991-92 before being included in the massive 10-player trade that brought Doug Gilmour from Calgary.

The Maple Leafs brought Berube to the city last week for an in-person interview. Among others they have spoken to are Gerard Gallant and Todd McLellan.

Nothing is done until it is done, but it would be a surprise at this point if Berube is not the next Toronto coach.
