Armand Duplantis defied gravity on Monday with a high-flying performance at the Paris Olympics.
The Swedish-American athlete, nicknamed “Mondo,” soared to Olympic glory while also beating his own world record in pole vault.
Despite only needing to clear 6.00m to earn gold, the 24-year-old flew over the bar at a new record height of 6.25m.
The United States’ Sam Kendricks won silver with a jump of 5.95m, while Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis captured bronze with a 5.90m result.
Duplantis has broken the world pole vault record nine times before. Before Monday’s triumph, he set the previous record of 6.24m in the Xiamen Diamond League in April this year.
Over the years, the track and field star has also had an incredible run at major international championships. Duplantis won gold at the last three Worlds and the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
