Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 12 highlights, schedule

Canada won its lone Olympic volleyball medal way back in 1996 when John Child and Mark Heese captured bronze on the beach in Atlanta.

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson hope to end that drought this week. The Toronto beach team has rebounded from a slow start in Paris 2024 to reach Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Here is a look at Day 12 highlights, along with a full event schedule.

(All times Eastern)

Brooke Henderson (women’s golf round 1, tees off at 4:11 a.m.)

The Canadian star is eighth in this season’s LPGA rankings. She’s coming off a tie for eighth at the CPKC Women’s Open in Calgary.

Moh Ahmed (men’s 5,000-m Round 1, 5:10 a.m.)

The St. Catharines, Ont. runner took silver in this event three years ago in Tokyo. The Canadian just missed the Paris podium in a thrilling 10,000-metre race, finishing fourth.

Marco Arop (men’s 800 metres Round 1, 5:55 a.m.)

The Edmonton runner won gold in this event at last year’s world championships.

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson (women’s volleyball quarterfinals, 11 a.m.)

After upsetting the world No. 2 team from the United States, the Canadians (3-2) battle world No. 16 Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno of Spain in the quarterfinals.

Alysha Newman (women’s pole vault final, 12:15 p.m.)

The London, Ont. native has reached the final for the first time in three Olympic appearances.

Canadian artistic swimming team (acrobatic routine, 1:30 p.m.)

Canada sits sixth heading into the final event of the competition.

Andre De Grasse (men’s 200-m semifinals, 2:02 p.m.)

The Canadian star is on track for the first time since his coach, Rana Reider, had his accreditation revoked Tuesday after allegations of sexual and emotional abuse on female athletes emerged in a lawsuit. De Grasse is the reigning Olympic champ in this event. Canada’s Brendon Rodney and Aaron Brown also are in the semis.
