Blue Jays look to bounce-back from extra-innings loss to Cubs

The Toronto Blue Jays youth continues to shine through but came up short against the Chicago Cubs in their series opener.

The Blue Jays had the Cubs sweating a bit after overcoming a 5-2 deficit in the ninth inning. However, Seiya Suzuki rescued Chicago with a game-ending single in the 10th inning to take it 6-5.

Will Wagner continues to swing a hot bat to start his MLB career after posting another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 in the series opener. Wagner has now posted multi-hit performances in each of his first three big league appearances and is batting .583 with four singles, three doubles, three RBI and a 1.416 OPS.

Toronto turns to Chris Bassitt, who is looking for a bounce-back outing after giving up seven runs over four innings in his last start against the Oakland Athletics.

The Cubs continue to make a push for a wild-card spot and will send Justin Steele to the mound for his 20th start of the season. He has gone four straight games pitching five or more innings and has not given up an earned run in five of his 19 starts.

Watch the second game of the series with the first pitch at 2:20 p.m. ET/11:20 a.m. PT, with Blue Jays Central previewing the action at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet.
