The Vancouver Canucks are the last Canadian team standing, and the defending champs have been bounced from the bubble.
Elias Pettersson and Co. are moving on to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after earning a series-clinching Game 6 win over the St. Louis Blues, earning their second series win of this post-season after topping the Minnesota Wild in the qualifying round.
The Canucks piled up four straight goals on the Blues over the first half of the tilt, chasing Jordan Binnington from the net in the middle frame. While St. Louis managed to disrupt Jacob Markstrom’s shutout bid in the third, the Canucks held on for a 6-2 victory.
In doing so, Vancouver reaches Round 2 for the first time since their Stanley Cup Final run in 2011. The Blues, meanwhile, bow out in the first round one year after their Cinderella championship run.
More to come.
