Tigers complete upset with sweep of Astros, advance to ALDS

The Detroit Tigers are moving on in the playoffs after a stunning sweep of the Houston Astros in the wild-card series.

The Tigers completed their upset with a 5-2 win over the Astros, sprung by a three-run double by Andy Ibanez in the top of the eighth.

Parker Meadows homered for the Tigers to open the scoring in the sixth. The Astros answered back at the bottom of the seventh with RBIs from Jon Singleton and Jose Altuve.

The upstart Tigers made an incredible run to an American League wild-card berth after finishing the first half of August below .500 and 10 games out of a playoff position. Now, they’ll turn their sights to the 92-69 Cleveland Guardians in the divisional series, which will begin Saturday, Oct. 5.

More to come.
