San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was carted off in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday after suffering an apparent knee injury.
The team later announced that he would be ruled out for the remainder of the game but did not provide additional details as to the severity of the injury.
They also ruled out fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel with an illness. Ahead of the game, yet another receiver in Jauan Jennings was ruled out with a hip injury.
The incident occurred in the final minute of the second quarter after Aiyuk made a catch at the Chiefs’ 14-yard line. Aiyuk got hit by two Chiefs defenders on the play and stayed down on the field after the tackle.
San Francisco’s medical staff attended to him on the field before he was eventually helped onto a cart and brought back to the team’s locker room.
Up to that point in the game, Aiyuk had two catches for 23 yards on six targets.
So far this season, the 26-year-old has caught 23 balls for 351 yards in six games.
Ahead of the season, the Reno, Nev., native signed a four-year, $120 million extension to remain with the 49ers. He was named to the second All-Pro team for the first time last season.
