‘One of the worst own goals’: Hockey world reacts to Lindgren’s gaffe

Charlie Lindgren did something objectively hilarious on Wednesday. Well, hilarious to everyone except for him and his Washington Capitals teammates.

Tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning at three goals apiece in the third period, the netminder corralled a clearance and immediately backhanded the puck into his own net.

Lindgren clearly intended to bank the puck off the boards to teammate John Carlson, but his kinesthetic sense failed him as he misjudged the whereabouts of the net he was responsible for protecting.

Not only did the goal give Tampa Bay the lead, but it also gave Brayden Point a hat trick.

The Capitals ultimately came back to win the game 5-4. It would stand to reason that the six-foot-two goaltender was relieved.

The misplay had Hockey fans in stitches on social media (aside from Capitals fans, of course). Here are some of the best reactions to Lindgren’s gaffe.
