Rangers’ Rempe offered in-person hearing for boarding/elbowing Stars’ Heiskanen

Matt Rempe is on his way to another suspension.

The New York Rangers forward was offered an in-person hearing by the NHL’s department of player safety for elbowing/boarding Dallas Stars defenceman Miro Heiskanen. The hearing will be held Sunday, via Zoom.

An in-person hearing, rather than over the phone, opens the option to suspend Rempe for longer than five games.

Rempe received a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct on the play, marking his fourth ejection in his 22-game career. The 22-year-old hit Heiskanen from behind and caught him with his elbow, after which the defenceman was slow to get up.

It was the 22-year-old’s first game with New York since Nov. 25. Rempe has no points and 24 penalty minutes in five games this season while averaging just over six minutes of ice time.

If he receives a suspension, this will be the second of his career for elbowing. The six-foot-nine forward received a four-game suspension in March of 2023 after a hit on New Jersey Devils blueliner Jonas Siegenthaler.
