Despite securing an impressive 5-4 comeback win in overtime against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs finished the night without one of their stars.
Forward William Nylander didn’t play in overtime and was seen holding his wrist on the bench during the extra frame.
“[He] just came back and something was bothering him,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube told reporters after the game. “So, he didn’t go in the overtime.”
It’s unclear exactly when a potential injury would have occurred, but Nylander skated 21:21 in the game, taking one shot and delivering one hit.
The 28-year-old forward has played in all three of Toronto’s games since returning from the 4 Nations break, which he spent playing with Team Sweden.
For the season, Nylander now has 33 goals and 58 points over 58 games for the Maple Leafs.
Toronto also lost defenceman Chris Tanev to an upper-body injury in the win over Boston.
