Philip Broberg played hero for the St. Louis Blues in overtime, scoring the game-winning goal to take two important points against the Vancouver Canucks with a 4-3 victory on Thursday.
The Canucks seemed to be in trouble when the Blues’ Tyler Tucker and Dylan Holloway scored in the span of 25 seconds to take a one-goal lead in the third period.
But with just seconds remaining in regulation, Brock Boeser tied it up on a hail-mary slapshot.
St. Louis’ Zac Bolduc opened the scoring in the second period, but the Canucks knotted things early in the third before taking the lead just five minutes later with Boeser’s first of the game and 200th of his career.
The Blues thought they scored the game-winner just under three minutes into overtime with a wrap-around, but an automatic review from the league confirmed the officials’ no-goal call.
With the win, the Blues move into the final wild-card spot with 77 points in 70 games. The Canucks, with 76 points, have a game in hand.
