Ovechkin scores OT winner, Capitals beat Canadiens in Game 1

The Washington Capitals opened their 2025 playoff campaign with a win.

They earned a 3–2 overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night, with Alex Ovechkin scoring the game-winner to give Washington a 1–0 lead in their first-round series.

Ovechkin also opened the scoring for the Capitals, while Anthony Beauvillier added the other goal. Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki replied in the third period for Montreal, erasing a 2–0 deficit to force overtime.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
