Draisaitl nets overtime winner, Oilers take 2-0 series lead over Golden Knights

Leon Draisaitl played overtime hero Thursday night, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 5–4 win over the Vegas Golden Knights and a 2–0 lead in the series.

Earlier in the extra frame, the Oilers had a five-minute power play after Nicolas Roy was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for cross-checking Trent Frederic in the face.

The Golden Knights tied the game with eight minutes remaining, as Alex Pietrangelo — making his return to the lineup after missing Game 1 with an illness — beat a locked-in Calvin Pickard to force overtime.

Victor Olofsson opened the scoring in the first period — his first of two Game 2 goals — but the Oilers were able to not only square the game in the second period, but build a two-goal cushion.

The Oilers added another goal early in the final frame off an Evander Kane netfront goal.

William Karlsson also scored for the Golden Knights, while Jake Walman and Vasily Podkolzin each potted their first career playoff goals for the Oilers.

Game 3 takes place in Edmonton on Saturday.

More to come.
