Jets stand tall to shut out Stars, force Game 6

The Winnipeg Jets will live to fight another day.

Winnipeg controlled the action in Thursday’s Game 5 against the Dallas Stars, using a shutout from Connor Hellebuyck to claim a 4-0 win on home ice.

Mark Scheifele broke the scoreless tie in the second period before Nikolaj Ehlers and Vladislav Namestnikov buried power-play goals in the third to shut down any hope of a Dallas comeback. Ehlers scored a second goal into an empty net to seal the victory for the Jets.

It was Hellebuyck’s second shutout of the series as the star netminder was supported by a strong defensive effort in the victory.

Things got chippy late as both Brandon Tanev and Jamie Benn were assessed 10-minute misconducts for a scrum with just over six minutes left in the game.

The series now stands at 3-2, setting the stage for Game 6 on Saturday in Dallas.

More to come.
